Stranger Things On Netflix | Written By: Lee
I just got done reading a delightfully frightening Stephen King book. I try to watch at least one scary movie per week. Horror is my favorite genre. Stranger Things on Netflix is a new original series about things that go bump in the night. The scary series stars Winona Ryder and Matthew Modine playing on different sides of a fence that separates good and evil.
Stranger Things – Setting The Scene
It’s 1983 in small town Indiana and phones with long curling cords hang from the wall. The phones begin to ring one night when young Wil Byers disappears. After playing a long game of Dungeons & Dragons in his friend’s basement Wil is never seen again. The same night a sinister alien without a face and a little girl with a shaved head and secrets named Eleven show up in this quiet town.
Eleven is a little mystery who has lived a hard 10 or so years. Matthew Modine plays her “Papa”, the leader of a government research laboratory studying increased brain function and the paranormal. He isn’t such a great guy. She’s been his main test subject and her safety and well being wasn’t at the top of his priority list. When she escapes the facility she is relieved to find a friend in Mike, Wil’s best friend. She agrees to help find Wil, who she explains in her own special way, is hiding on the flip side of reality.
Winona Ryder Will Crack The Case
Meanwhile half the town is disappearing and no one can figure out why. Winona Ryder’s character Joyce Byers is receiving messages from Wil. She is certain he is alive and just needs someone to figure out how to find him. The Sheriff played by David Harbour agrees to believe her and actually help her, not just patronize her. The events that will take place, the secrets they’ll uncover beg for a sequel (which Stranger Things has been given).
Stranger Things was mostly mysterious but also scary in that Stephen King kind of way we all love. It won’t make you run away screaming but it will give you something to talk about at the next get together. People are talking about Stranger Things on Netflix for good reason. Check it out today.
